How Mesothelioma Attacks

How asbestos gets into and attacks the human body

Since asbestos is 17% smaller than baby fine human hair it’s easily inhaled. Because asbestos is a mineral, the small fibers crack again and again, along their stress points. One strand of asbestos can become hundreds of airborne particals.

Once in the body it isn’t clear why it begins the genetic mutation that causes Mesothelioma.

But we do know that it attacks the protective lining of your body’s organs, the mesothelium. The mesothelium is is further defined by the body part:

the pleura (thoracal cavity)
peritoneum (abdominal cavity)
pericardium (heart sac)
tunica vaginalis testis (male internal reproductive organs)
tunica serosa uteri (female internal reproductive organs)
visceral mesothelium (internal organs)
parietal mesothelium (body walls)
