The Facts About Premature Ejaculation

Many men will experience a temporary or long-term release of sperm before they or their partner is ready it is called: premature ejaculation. Men over 30 can experience this as a common occurrence. Men will then begin to worry if something is wrong with them and begin to stress, which adds to the problem. It is embarrassing and difficult for a man to admit to having difficulty in the area of sex. Men are usually fixated about their performance ability or can easily be made to feel inferior by careless or intentional talk by their sexual partner. Men rarely talk to each other about any difficulties that may arise in bed. The problem can cause tension with their mate and it is difficult to resolve the matter with her, when all he can think about is that he is somehow failing her. It is especially stressful if they are trying to have a baby, as this can become a fertility issue then. The inability to ejaculate at the right time will be frustrating and can cause friction between the couple not to mention that neither will experience any sexual pleasure.

The best thing the male can do is to seek medical advice as to what exactly is occurring with him. The doctor can assess the situation by first asking questions of the male and then the female regarding the sexual issue. A physical examination will be done on the male and there may be additional testing like neurological testing (nervous system). A psychological evaluation may be recommended so that it can be determined if there are any emotional or psychological factors involved.

After the diagnosis of premature ejaculation is made then a treatment plan will be devised that will take into consideration the age of the male, the findings from the exam and results of the interview between doctor and male and doctor and female.

A very important aspect of the success of treatment is the willingness of the couple to work on the situation.

The male may decide to investigate the several over-the-counter medications, available to help improve the sexual dysfunction. Any medication should be run by the medical professional first before taking it. One preparation can be found over-the-counter by asking the pharmacist for it. It is called Premjact and is a topical anesthetic. It should be applied approximately 15 minutes before intercourse. This product is a lidocaine type application that will numb the skin of the penis. It works by dulling some of the perceived sensations that will hopefully lead to delaying ejaculation for the male.

German scientists have designed a product called "long love condom" that does contain a local anesthetic (benzocaine). They are sold under different brand names in many countries. You must be careful with this as the male may develop a reaction to the benzocaine.

If your premature ejaculation is more severe, a doctor will refer you to perhaps a sex therapist, psychologist or psychologist and possibly a urologist.

A method called the Masters-Johnson method, which involves both of the sexual partners, has been very successful. The grip that is a part of the method really needs to be demonstrated by an expert because if you try to learn it from a book or the internet you will not be able to get it right which will cause further frustration.

Doctors treating premature ejaculation have also prescribed antidepressant drugs. These drugs are known for delaying male climax as a side effect of the drug. The names of these drugs are: Anafranil, Prozac and Lustral. These drugs do have side effects so make sure your doctor or pharmacist goes over everything with you before taking this drug. There is another drug called amitriptyline that is being sold on the streets as a "last-longer pill". It is usually not safe to purchase drugs from the street, as quality cannot be determined.
